thefontpair ("we," "us," "our") operates the website thefontpair.com (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using the Service, you agree to the practices described here.

Who we are

thefontpair is a font-pairing and font-download tool. The Service is operated through a business account established in Canada. If you have questions about this policy, contact us at hello@thefontpair.com.

Information we collect

Information you provide directly:

  • Account information — when you create an account, we collect your name and email address, and a securely hashed version of your password (we never store your password in plain text).
  • Payment information — when you subscribe to a paid plan, payment is processed by our payment provider, Stripe. We do not store your full card number. Stripe stores your card securely and provides us only with limited, non-sensitive details (such as the card brand and last four digits) and a token reference used to process your subscription.
  • Content you create — fonts and pairings you save, and any custom fonts you upload.
  • Communications — if you email us or contact support, we keep those messages.

Information collected automatically:

  • Usage data — pages visited, features used, and general activity, to operate and improve the Service.
  • Device and log data — IP address, browser type, and similar technical information, used for security, fraud prevention, and troubleshooting.
  • Cookies — we use cookies that are necessary for the Service to function (such as keeping you logged in) and, where applicable, for analytics. You can control cookies through your browser settings.

How we use your information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, operate, and maintain the Service;
  • Create and manage your account and process your subscription;
  • Send transactional emails (email verification, password resets, billing notices, and important account notices);
  • Respond to your requests and provide support;
  • Protect the Service against fraud, abuse, and security threats;
  • Understand how the Service is used and improve it;
  • Comply with legal obligations.

How we share information

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only with:

  • Service providers who help us operate the Service, including our payment processor (Stripe), our email delivery provider, and our hosting and infrastructure providers. These providers may only use your information to perform services for us.
  • Legal and safety — where required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of thefontpair, our users, or others.
  • Business transfers — if the Service is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction.

Payments and Stripe

Subscription payments are processed by Stripe. Stripe acts as our payment processor and, for tax purposes, may act as merchant of record. Your payment card data is handled by Stripe under its own security standards and privacy policy. We encourage you to review Stripe's privacy policy at stripe.com/privacy.

Data retention

We keep your personal information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the Service. After you delete your account, we remove or anonymize your personal information within a reasonable period, except where we are required to retain certain records (for example, billing and tax records) to comply with legal obligations.

Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to:

  • Access, correct, or delete your personal information;
  • Object to or restrict certain processing;
  • Request a copy of your information in a portable format;
  • Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.

To exercise any of these, email hello@thefontpair.com. You can also update your name and email, and delete your account, from your profile settings at any time.

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we process your personal data on the legal bases of performing our contract with you (providing the Service), our legitimate interests (operating and securing the Service), your consent (where applicable), and compliance with legal obligations.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit (HTTPS), hashed passwords, and restricted access. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

International transfers

We operate globally, and your information may be processed in countries other than where you live, including Canada and other locations where our service providers operate. Where required, we take steps to ensure your information receives appropriate protection.

Browser Extension

The thefontpair Chrome extension analyzes the fonts and colors of a web page entirely locally in your browser, and only when you click the extension icon.

The extension does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data, browsing history, page content, or analytics. It requires no account and contains no tracking of any kind.

When the extension displays font previews or when you apply a font pairing to a page, your browser requests font files directly from Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com), the same way any website using Google Fonts does. These requests are governed by Google's privacy policy.

Copying colors, code snippets, or specimen images to your clipboard happens only when you click a copy button, and the data goes only to your clipboard.

Links from the extension to thefontpair.com include standard campaign parameters (utm) so we can count visits from the extension in aggregate; these contain no personal information.

Children's privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, notify you. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
